Work Party Sunday 11 Oct 09
As you will know the final work party for this year is this coming Sunday, 11 Oct 09. John has been along the river and has identified a number of tasks that need to be copleated before the winter sets in. The plan is to meet at Middle Mill at 09:00 and work on the following tasks:
- Remove trees from the river
- Removal of weed from within the river
- Clear the bank of weed so that access can be gained
Parking is tight along the lane to Middle Mill so please park your car with consideration to other road users.
Although this is the last work party it is as important as the first. We need to ensure that the river is in good order before the winter sets in. Please try and help.

Just a reminder the show is next Bank Holiday Monday. We look forward to your good selves visiting our tent, POP-In and have a chat. Every year we raise charitable funds at the show and on this occasion we have a Tom Bola in aid of Riding for the Disabled. We need bottles or equivalent cash to purchase bottles, by no later than Thursday 27 August (please refer to our last newsletter). Help is needed to man the stall. If you can help please contact Terry. This year we are welcoming Mark Roberts and his team from the GAIN (Game Angling Instructors Association). They will be running ‘A Workshop’ along the meadow pool, so members can improve their casting (for a small fee). The weather for the next few day is not that good with heavy rain. Unless the rain is very heavy the work party will go ahead, If it is felt that it should be cancelled I will send out an email out by 08:00hrs on Sunday morning. The Bristol BBC weather page is: http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/3

Work Parties
So far there have been two work parties both along the bank at Damery Wood. A number of dead trees have been removed and the bank has been cut back. Toby and Co have repaired the style by the M4 tunnel and the new scythes have been put to good use.
The turn out has been good, but as always we are seeing the same faces. All the syndicate asks is that you attend one working party each year. Please find time to attend and put something back into river that we all fish.
The next work party will be on Sunday 14th June 09. We will be meeting at 09:00hrs at Damery. This time we will be working along the bank in John’s field and as always all the syndicates tools will be available. We look forward to seeing you.

New members are invited to attend a morning walking some beats of the river with Terry. The morning has been arranged for Sunday 3 May 09. Those wishing to attend should meet at the estate office at 09:30hrs. New members are encouraged to attend.
Fishing by non-members
There have been reports of non-members fishing on the river. There are signs along the river and at entrance points informing the public that the river is ‘Private Fishing’ and for members only. If you do come across a non-member fishing, politely inform them that it is for members only and that they should not be fishing. Please do not get into conflict, but if it looks like conflict might happen, walk way and contact either one of the syndicate bailiffs, the estate office or the police. Do not forget that you should have your membership card with you at all times when fishing on the river.
_______________________________________________________________________________ Syndicate Subscriptions
Once again it is the time to pay your Syndicate Subscriptions. If you have not paid then already, you should ensure that subscriptions are paid to Terry by the 7th April 09. Subscriptions have not changed since last year and remain at £50.

You should by now have received a reminder from the Environment Agency to renew your Rod License. Remember that as a syndicate member you need to have a up to date Membership and a valid Rod License with you at all times when fishing on the river.
Catch Returns
As discussed at the AGM a more accurate catch returns has been asked for. Bernie has produces a catch return as a excel file which has been sent to you via email. The return will be added to the website in due course. In the mean time if you require a paper copy please contact Martin. You can email returns to Bernie at yourcatch@virgin.net . Working Party: Saturday 13th September 2008
If you have been to the river in the last few day you would have seen that a tree has fallen down and is blocking the river at Damery. At present the river is too high to tackle the removal of the tree, but it is hoped that by the weekend the river would have fallen so that the tree can be removed.
To remove the tree and other rubbish a work party has been arranged to Saturday 13th September 2008. Meeting will be at Damery at 09:00hrs.
If you have a Chain Saw Operators Certificate and would be able to attend, please let Martin know as a matter of urgency.
Please bring with you chest waders and wet weather clothing. One of the tools we are short on are small saw, if you can help with a hand saw or pruning saw it would be appreciated.
It has been decided to hold this work party on Saturday because of the Frampton Country Fair being held on the Sunday which we are sure many members would wish to attend. The Castle web site is saying that the Antiques & Classic Car Show due to be held on Sunday on the meadow has been cancelled.
This is a very important work party, as we do need to clear the river as a matter of urgency. Your help would be very much appreciated.
Berkeley estate DVD
Terry now has a copy of the two programmes that feature the syndicate made by Sky TV. If you would like to see these DVD’s please contact Terry

Thank you for those members that turned out for the work party on Sunday morning. In total there was 12 members present. A lot of work was done with the main effort being on the weir and also a wall to help protect the bank at the weir site. The path that runs along the side of the river in Johns field was also cut back.
All in all a good mornings work.
