Work Party Sunday 12 Feb 12

We hope that you have had a good winter and ready for another year on the river.  As you would have seen from our last email we are starting work parties in February this year.  The first work party will be next Sunday, 12 Feb 2012 and we will be working around the Castle Meadow area.

As always we will be meeting at 09:00 at the Estate office.  Please park behind the estate office in a sensible way and we will walk down to the river from there.  As always the syndicates tools and equipment will be on hand but if you would like to bring your own please feel free to do so.

John informed me that we will be in the river breaking up the reed roots, this will mean working in the river so waders would be useful.  John has also asked that if you could help with spades and rakes this would be most useful.  It will be cold day and the water will be cold, please wear suitable cloths and footwear, maybe have some spare warm cloths in your car would be advised.  There will be hot drinks available as always.

We look forward to seeing you for the start of a busy year.

Work Party Sunday 10 October 10

I have been asked to remind you that the final work party of this year will be held on Sunday 10 Oct 10.  We will be meeting at 09:00 at Damery Wood and working in and around that area.  There are a number of tasks that need to be carried out which have been identified by John.  As always the syndicate tools and equipment will be available but if you wish to bring your own tools please do so.  Waders will be of use as there is work that needs to be done in the river.

As this is the last work party it will be a good chance for those members that have not attended a work party so far this year to do so (Should be a large work party).
On arrival please book in with John and sign the registration sheet so we can keep a record of those attending.

Updated 11 September 2010
You may be aware that a new Non-native species has arrived in the UK.  It has been called the 'Killer Shrimp'.  We have already mentioned this and asked that you take great care of all your equipment when moving between fishing waters.  David has written a small article which you will find on the Conservation Page.  You will also find links off to other web pagers that will give more detailed information.

Important Work Party
19 September 10

As you will know there is a tree down at Damery.  John has already cleared the branches that were constricting the flow of the water but there is still a need to remove the tree from the water.  There are also two more trees that may need to be removed.

We therefore need to ask for as many hands as possible for next Sundays work party.  Please try and find time to help out on this important work party and help with the removal of the tree.

We will meet at Damery wood at 09:00 as normal and should be finished at around midday.  The syndicate’s tools will he there along with other syndicate equipment.  However if you would like to bring along your own tools please feel free to do so.  The one thing that would be of use are waders.  On arrival you should book in with John so that we can keep a record of those that attend all work parties.

Look Forward to seeing you there.

Berkeley Show, Update and thank you

The syndicate had its normal stand at Berkeley show on bank holiday Monday.   We talked with many people regarding both fishing on the river and the conservation work that we carry out.  David Morton did a great job as the face of the syndicate talking to many people.  Toby and I did some fly tying, which had been asked for and attracted much attention.

Thank you for those that donated Bottles for the Tombola.  As always this went down well and raised around £350 for Prostate Cancer Charity, a  big thank you to Sue and David  Milliner for all there hard work and organisation.

Thank to all those that helped in any way with the day.

Wader and Equipment cleaning.

Please remember that you should be disinfecting your boots, waders and fishing equipment when moving from river to river.  This is to stop the spread of Crayfish eggs and the new Killer Shrimp to our river.  Please take a few moments to look after your kit and our river.  (I will try and get something on the web site)

Catch returns.

Those of you that are Game fisherman should be thinking of getting the Catch return sent in very soon.  I will be sending out a email within the next week with the catch return form in excel format and instructions on how it should be returned.  From what I have been told by may members (I remember who you are!!) some nice fish have been hooked this year.  More details to follow.

8 September 2010

Welcome back.

As you will know the website has not been working for sometime.  I have now managed to get the problems sorted out and we are back on line.  There are a number of things that still need to be finished off on the site but these will be done over the next few weeks.
